Epilepsy/seizures, Trigeminal neuralgia
Medicinal Benefits:
Arilep 200mg Tablet SR belongs to a group of medicines called anti-convulsants or anti-epileptics used to treat epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia (face nerve pain). Arilep 200mg Tablet SR works by reducing the electrical impulses and subsequent firing of the nerve impulses that cause fits. Arilep 200mg Tablet SR decreases the excessive and abnormal nerve activity in the brain, thereby helping in controlling seizures. Arilep 200mg Tablet SR is also used to relieve nerve pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia. People with glossopharyngeal neuralgia may also experience benefit with Arilep 200mg Tablet SR. Arilep 200mg Tablet SR is not associated with any psychological or physical dependence, and there is no potential for abuse.
Arilep 200mg Tablet SR decreases the brain's excessive and abnormal nerve activity by blocking sodium currents in your brain and body. This reduces abnormal electrical activity between your nerve cells.
Do not discontinue Arilep 200mg Tablet SR without consulting your doctor. To treat your condition effectually continue taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR for as long as prescribed. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you feel any difficulty while taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR; your doctor will reduce the dose gradually to avoid worsening of seizures.
Arilep 200mg Tablet SR may affect the way hormone contraceptives work in your body. This may cause spotting or breakthrough bleeding. Arilep 200mg Tablet SR may increase the risk of pregnancy as it makes the contraceptive less effective. Talk to your doctor, he/she will discuss the most suitable type of contraception while taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR to avoid pregnancy.
Arilep 200mg Tablet SR may cause weight gain due to an increase in appetite. Maintain a healthy weight by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
Use an effective contraception method during the treatment with Arilep 200mg Tablet SR and 2 weeks after the last dose. Avoid getting pregnant while taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR as it could lead to serious congenital disabilities. Do not stop taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR without consulting your doctor.
Arilep 200mg Tablet SR may cause hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood). This could lead to confusion, reduced concentration, vision problems, nausea, vomiting or worsening of seizures. Regular monitoring of sodium levels is advised while taking Arilep 200mg Tablet SR. Consult your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Arilep 200mg Tablet SR. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might stimulate saliva and prevent drying of the mouth.
