Gerasil Skin Cream Substitute

Gerasil Skin Cream consists of Betamethasone, Clotrimazole, and Neomycin. Betamethasone, a corticosteroid, works by blocking prostaglandin's production (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. Clotrimazole, an antifungal drug, stops fungi's growth by causing damage and leakage to the fungal cell membrane. Neomycin is an antibiotic that prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.

Gerasil Skin Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If Gerasil Skin Cream gets into your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina, rinse with water. Do not put a bandage or a dressing on the affected area while using Gerasil Skin Cream unless advised by the doctor. Do not apply Gerasil Skin Cream on sunburns, open wounds, lesions and blisters.

Gerasil Skin Cream should be used with caution and under doctor's supervision if you have pituitary gland diseases, cataract or glaucoma, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases. Using corticosteroids (Betamethasone) on the skin may sometimes cause systemic immunosuppression while treating infections. This condition may worsen the infections, hence Gerasil Skin Cream should be carefully used with patients with active infections.

Gerasil Skin Cream is not recommended for treating diaper rash, since Betamethasone can cause adrenal suppression, Cushing's syndrome and intracranial hypertension (increased pressure in the brain) in infants due to systemic absorption.

Gerasil Skin Cream may not work for skin infections like viral skin infections, such as chickenpox, shingles, cold sores or herpes simplex, bacterial infections like impetigo, lesions caused by tuberculosis or syphilis, acne vulgaris (spots), rosacea, perioral dermatitis (red spotty rash around the mouth) and widespread plaque psoriasis.
