FAQs

Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, it kills the bacteria and helps treat and prevent the spread of infections.

Diarrhoea is the most reported common side effect of Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup. In most cases, Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup does not require medical attention and gradually resolves over time. However, if you notice any of these side effects persist or worsen your child’s condition, inform your doctor immediately. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.

It is recommended to complete the course of Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup even if your child is feeling better as it is an antibiotic, and leaving it in between may lead to even severe infection that will, in fact, stop responding to the antibiotic as well (antibiotic resistance).

Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup may cause stomach upset as a side effect. To avoid this, give Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup, preferably with food. Taking Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup with food helps in increasing its absorption in the body.

Do not use antacids or antiulcer medicines along with Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup. Maintaining at least a gap of 2-3 hours between both drugs is recommended if required. Consult your doctor for more information.

About Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup

Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup belongs to the group of antibiotic medicines called 'cephalosporins' used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissue in children. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.

Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup contains 'Cefpodoxime Proxetil', a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against both gram-positive and negative groups of bacteria. It works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell covering (cell wall), which is necessary for their survival. Thereby, it kills the bacteria and helps treat and prevent bacterial infection spread.

Like all medicines, Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup may cause some common side effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (watery or loose stool), abdominal pain, loss of appetite, bloating, skin rash, and itching. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if you notice any of these side effects persist or worsen your child's condition, inform your doctor immediately.

Inform your doctor about your child's entire medical history. Other drugs or supplements should not be combined with Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup unless prescribed by a doctor. Even if your child is feeling better after taking a few doses, do not miss any dose and complete the entire course of medication. Stopping the medication too soon may cause the infection to recur or worsen.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • It would be best to give probiotics after taking the full course of Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestine that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.

  • The BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) can help treat diarrhoea caused due to antibiotic use.

  • Give plenty of water to the child. Staying hydrated is important, especially when you’re child sick.

  • Eating a broad range of plant-based foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, pulses and wholegrains helps to build a healthy gut microbiome.

  • Avoid feeding too many calcium-enriched foods and drinks because they may interfere with the functioning of Alenpod 50mg Dry Syrup.
