About Bacigyl 100 Syrup

Bacigyl 100 Syrup belongs to the group of quinolones antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is indicated in the treatment of urinary tract infections, prostatitis (prostate inflammation) and gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted disease). Additionally, Bacigyl 100 Syrup is used to treat infections of the stomach and intestine like traveller’s diarrhoea. 

Bacigyl 100 Syrup contains Norfloxacin which inhibits the synthesis of an enzyme called DNA gyrase. Thereby kills the bacteria and treats bacterial infections. Bacigyl 100 Syrup has a broad spectrum antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic bacteria.

Take Bacigyl 100 Syrup as prescribed. In some cases, Bacigyl 100 Syrup may cause common side-effects such as abdominal cramps, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if the side-effects persist or worsen.

Inform your doctor if you experience pain in tendons, swelling, or inflammation as Bacigyl 100 Syrup is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture and tendonitis; this risk is higher in patients older than 60years, in people taking steroids, or who have had kidney, heart or lung transplant. Bacigyl 100 Syrup may cause dizziness and light-headedness, so drive only if you are alert. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Bacigyl 100 Syrup as it may cause increased dizziness.

Directions for Use

Take Bacigyl 100 Syrup on an empty stomach, i.e., one hour before food or two hours after food. Tablet/Capsule: Swallow it as a whole with water; do not crush or chew the tablet/capsule.Suspension/Syrup/Drops: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the prescribed dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

Do not take Bacigyl 100 Syrup if you are allergic to any of its contents; if you had swelling or tearing of tendons while taking quinolone antibiotics. Bacigyl 100 Syrup is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture and tendonitis in all age groups; this risk is higher in patients older than 60 years, people taking corticosteroids, who have had kidney, heart or lung transplants. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience tendon pain, swelling or inflammation while taking Bacigyl 100 Syrup. Do not take Bacigyl 100 Syrup if you have myasthenia gravis, as it may cause increased muscle weakness. Talk to your doctor if you have epilepsy, low levels of potassium, nervous or muscle problems, head injury or brain tumour, diabetes,  rheumatoid arthritis, heart, kidney or liver problems. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Bacigyl 100 Syrup as it may cause increased dizziness. Bacigyl 100 Syrup works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial DNA gyrase; this prevents the bacteria from repairing and multiplying. Thereby, helps in treating the infections.

Bacigyl 100 Syrup may cause photosensitivity (sensitivity to sunlight) and can make you sunburn easily. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Always wear protective clothing and sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before going out.

It is recommended to complete the course of Bacigyl 100 Syrup even if you feel better as it is an antibiotic, and leaving it in between may lead to even severe infection. To treat your condition effectually, continue taking Bacigyl 100 Syrup for as long as your doctor has prescribed it.

Avoid consuming dairy products such as milk and yoghurt along with Bacigyl 100 Syrup as they may decrease the effectiveness of Bacigyl 100 Syrup.

Do not take Bacigyl 100 Syrup on your own, as self-medication may lead to antibiotic-resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections.
