GRAVION GRANULES 5GM belongs to the category of a synthetic progesterone female hormone called progestin used to prevent premature labor. Premature labor can start before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy and can be caused due to premature rupture of membranes, high blood pressure during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia) and poor diet. A miscarriage is an unexpected loss of pregnancy before 20 weeks of pregnancy. It mostly happens during the first trimester, or the first three months, of the pregnancy. 

GRAVION GRANULES 5GM contains “Allylestrenol” a progestin (female hormones) that works by modulating the immune response of the pregnant women to prevent rejection of the embryo and allow its attachment to the uterus and improving blood flow to the placenta. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM prevents repeated miscarriage (pregnancy loss) and helps lower the risk of premature birth in pregnant women who have had a past premature delivery.

Take GRAVION GRANULES 5GM as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take GRAVION GRANULES 5GM for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as a change in weight, unwanted hair growth, menstrual disturbances, swelling over the body, fever, headache, and fatigue. Not everybody experiences these side effects. Most of the side effects of GRAVION GRANULES 5GM do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. Talk to your doctor if you feel any discomfort while taking GRAVION GRANULES 5GM.

Do not stop taking GRAVION GRANULES 5GM abruptly without your doctor’s advice as it may cause heavy bleeding. Before starting GRAVION GRANULES 5GM, please inform your doctor if you have an allergy to GRAVION GRANULES 5GM and any medicines. Tell your doctor before using GRAVION GRANULES 5GM if you have had pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy), thromboembolic disorders (blood clot form in the blood), diabetes, depression, or epilepsy. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM may cause dizziness, so be cautious while driving and operating machinery. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM is not recommended to use in children. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking GRAVION GRANULES 5GM. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking and about your health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects.

It works by modulating the immune response of the pregnant women to prevent rejection of the embryo and allow its attachment to the uterus and improving blood flow to the placenta.  It also relaxes uterus muscles, thereby preventing premature labor. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM prevents repeated miscarriage and helps lower the risk of premature birth in pregnant women who have had a past premature delivery. Also, GRAVION GRANULES 5GM is used to treat intrauterine growth retardation (unborn baby is not growing at a normal rate), amenorrhoea (absence of menstrual periods due to lack of progesterone), irregular menses cycle, and premenstrual syndrome (symptoms include mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and depression that women can experience in the weeks before their menses period). On the other hand, GRAVION GRANULES 5GM is effective in the treatment of hot flashes in postmenopausal women and benign prostatic hyperplasia (noncancerous increase in the size of the prostate gland) in men.

You should not take GRAVION GRANULES 5GM on your own without a doctor's advice. Before starting GRAVION GRANULES 5GM, please inform your doctor if you have an allergy to any medicines. Do not take GRAVION GRANULES 5GM if you have unusual vaginal bleeding that is not related to your pregnancy, liver disease, severe hypertension (high blood pressure), history of cancer of the breast, uterus or vagina. Tell your doctor before using GRAVION GRANULES 5GM if you have had preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy), thromboembolic disorders (blood clot form in the blood), diabetes, depression, epilepsy. Do not stop taking GRAVION GRANULES 5GM abruptly without your doctor’s advice as it may cause heavy bleeding. Let your doctor know if you are a breastfeeding mother. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing them to you. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM is not recommended for children younger than 16 years old. GRAVION GRANULES 5GM can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Use caution while driving a motor vehicle as dizziness or drowsiness may occur.

• You should not take GRAVION GRANULES 5GM if you have an incomplete abortion.
