Kofkind Syrup 100 ml belongs to a class of medications called ‘expectorants’ primarily used to treat cough. Coughing (dry or productive) is a body’s way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus, or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. There are two types of coughs, namely: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) means mucous or sputum is produced to help clear your airways.
Kofkind Syrup 100 ml contains four medicines namely: Dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), Chlorpheniramine (antihistamine/antiallergic), Guaifenesin (expectorant), and Ammonium chloride (irritative agent). Dextromethorphan belongs to the class of cough suppressants that works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the cough center in the brain to the muscles that produce cough thereby decreasing the urge to cough. Chlorpheniramine belongs to the class of antihistamines (anti-allergic drugs) that works by blocking the action of histamine, responsible for causing allergic reactions. It also provides relief from symptoms of allergic symptoms such as sneezing, running nose, watery eyes, itching, swelling, and congestion or stiffness. Guaifenesin and Ammonium chloride belongs to the class of irritants and expectorants that works by irritating the airways which increase the production of respiratory tract fluids and decrease the stickiness of mucus that can be coughed out easily. Thus, together Kofkind Syrup 100 ml helps in removing mucus from the airways and helps in easy breathing especially.
Take Kofkind Syrup 100 ml as prescribed. Your doctor will recommend you how often you take Kofkind Syrup 100 ml based on your medical condition. Some people may experience dry mouth, throat or nose, nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, restlessness, or nervousness. Most of these side effects of Kofkind Syrup 100 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Kofkind Syrup 100 ml or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to inform your doctor before using Kofkind Syrup 100 ml. Kofkind Syrup 100 ml is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Kofkind Syrup 100 ml to loosen mucus. If you have high blood pressure, fits, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), chronic bronchitis, asthma, cough with mucus, cough caused by smoking, chronic bronchitis or emphysema (a lung condition causing shortness of breath), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), blockage in stomach or intestines, phenylketonuria (a birth defect that causes accumulation of amino acid, phenylalanine in the body), enlarged prostate, pheochromocytoma (tumor in the adrenal glands), kidney, liver, lung, heart or urinary problems, inform your doctor before taking Kofkind Syrup 100 ml.
