Kolq Plus Suspension belongs to a class of medications called 'expectorants'. It is used in the treatment of cough. Cough is defined as the sudden expulsion of air out of the lungs due to irritation through the throat with a sharp noise. Cough is classified into two types, namely: Dry cough and wet cough. A dry cough is tickly without the production of vicious or thick mucus, while a wet cough is the production of vicious or thick mucus. 

Kolq Plus Suspension is a combination of Paracetamol (analgesic and antipyretic), Phenylephrine (decongestant), Chlorpheniramine, Sodium citrate (mucolytic agent), Ammonium chloride, and Menthol (cooling agent). Paracetamol inhibits the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) in the brain responsible for pain and fever. Ammonium chloride works by irritating the airways, which increases respiratory tract fluid production and decreases the stickiness of mucus that can be coughed out easily. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of histamine, which is responsible for causing allergic reactions. Phenylephrine helps in shrinking the blood vessels in the nasal passage, thereby reducing the stuffy nose. Sodium citrate works by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose. Menthol provides relief from minor throat irritation by giving a cooling sensation. Together, Kolq Plus Suspension helps to provide relief from cough.

Kolq Plus Suspension should be taken as advised by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose of the medicine based on your medical condition. Kolq Plus Suspension may cause certain side effects such as nausea, stomach upset, dizziness, dry mouth, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, constipation, and restlessness. Most of these side effects of Kolq Plus Suspension do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Kolq Plus Suspension should be avoided if you are allergic to any of the medicines or the components in them. Kolq Plus Suspension is not recommended for children below six years of age. Inform your doctor if you have/had liver/kidney disease, glaucoma, seizures, heart disease, lung disease, stomach problem, phenylketonuria (a birth defect that causes accumulation of amino acid, phenylalanine in the body), or urinary problems. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

• It is advised to stop the use of Kolq Plus Suspension if your cough persists for more than 1 week if it reoccurs or is accompanied by hay fever, skin rash, or persistent fever.
