Pileum Cream

Pileum Cream belongs to the group of medicines called anorectal preparations used to treat anal fissures and haemorrhoids (piles). Haemorrhoids, also known as piles, are the inflamed and swollen veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort, pain and bleeding. An anal fissure is a small tear in the mucosa that lines the anus. This causes pain and bleeding during or after a bowel movement. Pileum Cream relieves pain, inflammation, discomfort and itching associated with piles and anal fissures.
 
Pileum Cream contains Calcium dobesilate (vasoprotective agent), Hydrocortisone (steroid), Lidocaine (local anaesthetic), Troxerutin (vasoprotective agent), Zinc oxide (antiseptic) and Phenylephrine (decongestant). Calcium dobesilate and Troxerutin promote healing and lower inflammation by decreasing the viscosity of the blood and reducing leakage from the blood vessels. Hydrocortisone helps in reducing itching, redness and swelling due to piles. Lidocaine blocks the pain signals from the nerves to the brain, thereby decreasing the sensation of pain. Phenylephrine decreases irritation and discomfort by shrinking the blood vessels in the affected area. Zinc oxide has an antiseptic and astringent action. Together, Pileum Cream provides relief from pain and discomfort due to piles and anal fissures.
 
You are advised to use Pileum Cream for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as burning sensation, irritation, itching and redness at the site of application. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
 
Do not use Pileum Cream if you had a skin reaction or irritation to any steroid medicine. Consult your doctor before using Pileum Cream if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use Pileum Cream for longer durations unless prescribed by your doctor. If your condition does not improve despite using Pileum Cream for 2-4 weeks, please consult your doctor. Do not use Pileum Cream over a large area or use tight-fitting diapers/plastic pants unless directed by your doctor. Inform your doctor about your health condition and medications to rule out any side-effects.
