About POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE

POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE belongs to the group of immunomodulatory drugs used to treat a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma in adults 18 years or older. Multiple myeloma, also known as myeloma, is a type of bone marrow cancer that affects several areas of the body, such as the spine, skull, pelvis, and ribs.

POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE contains Pomalidomide. Pomalidomide is both a targeted therapy drug and an immunotherapy drug. It works in several different ways. It can help the immune system attack and destroy cancer cells (immune system modulator); it kills or stops cancer cells' growth (cancer growth inhibitor). On the other side, it can block the development of new blood vessels, which cancer cells need to grow and spread (angiogenesis inhibitor).

POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE is a prescription-only medicine. Take POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE as prescribed. POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE may be taken with or without food. In some cases, POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE may cause certain common side effects such as nausea, rash or allergic reactions, breathing problems, infection, low blood counts, bruising, chest pain, constipation, confusion, dizziness, diarrhoea, fever, faintness, and headaches. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen.

Before taking the POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE , inform your doctor about all your allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to medicines or food. POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. It is critical not to become pregnant or get pregnant while undergoing therapy and for several months afterwards. Before beginning treatment, discuss effective contraception with your healthcare professional. Inform them immediately if you or your partner becomes pregnant while undergoing therapy. Breastfeeding is usually not advised during this treatment since it is unknown whether this medication passes into breast milk.

Side effects of Pomired 2mg Capsule
  • Talk to your doctor about medicines to manage neutropenia based on the underlying cause.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
  • Avoid unpasteurized dairy products.
  • Include iron-rich foods like dark leafy vegetables, lean red meat, legumes and fish in your diet.
  • Consume vitamin C-rich foods as they aid iron absorption.
  • Limit tea, cocoa, and coffee as these can slow iron absorption.
  • Exercise regularly; however, do not overdo it.
  • Managing a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) caused by medication usage requires a multi-step approach. Here are some steps to help manage the condition:
  • Inform your doctor about your low platelet count and medication usage. They will assess the situation and guide the best course of action.
  • Your doctor may recommend adjusting or stopping the medication that is causing a low platelet count. This could involve switching to alternative medication or reducing the dosage.
  • Monitor your platelet count regularly through blood tests to track any changes. This will help the doctor determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
  • If an underlying condition, such as infection or inflammation, contributes to the low platelet count, your doctor will treat it.
  • In some cases, alternative treatments like platelet transfusions or medications that stimulate platelet production may be necessary.
  • Avoid risky activities and certain medications; eat a balanced diet with plenty of water to reduce bleeding risk and boost overall health.
  • If you experience severe bleeding or bruising, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
  • Boost your immunity by including immune rich foods in your diet and always remember to stay hydrated.
  • Get sufficient sleep and manage stress which helps in improving white blood cell count.
  • Consult your doctor for an effective treatment to improve the blood cell count and get regular body check up to monitor changes in the count.
  • Try to prevent the factors that cause a decrease in the white blood cells that may lead to impaired immunity.
  • Nourish your body with a balanced diet with protein-rich foods like fish, eggs, and beans. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts provide essential vitamins and minerals. If necessary, consider vitamin B12 and folate supplements.
  • Practice good hygiene to protect yourself from infections. Wash your hands often, stay up-to-date on vaccinations, avoid crowded areas, and take care when handling food, pets, and diapers.
  • Aim for a good night's sleep, targeting 8 hours of sleep. Find calm through stress-reducing practices like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing. Regular physical activity can also help.
  • Stay healthy by drinking plenty of water, eating probiotic-rich foods like yoghurt, and limiting processed foods and sugars. Consult your doctor, if you are having difficulties or concerns.
  • Rest well; get enough sleep.
  • Eat a balanced diet and drink enough water.
  • Manage stress with yoga and meditation.
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine.
  • Physical activities like walking or jogging might help boost energy and make you feel less tired.
Here's a comprehensive approach to managing medication-triggered fever:
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you experience a fever after starting a new medication.
  • Your doctor may adjust your medication regimen or dosage as needed to minimize fever symptoms.
  • Monitor your body temperature to monitor fever progression.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or electrolyte-rich beverages, to help your body regulate temperature.
  • Get plenty of rest and engage in relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to help manage fever symptoms.
  • Under the guidance of your doctor, consider taking medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to help reduce fever.
  • If your fever is extremely high (over 103°F), or if you experience severe symptoms such as confusion, seizures, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Warnings

Before taking POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE , inform your doctor about your medical history and other medications you are currently taking to rule out any potential negative effects. Avoid taking POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or allergic to any component present in POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE . Both women and men using this POMIRED 2MG CAPSULE should use birth control to avoid pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you have a history of infections; your doctor will closely monitor and manage it. Pomalidomide can lower the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in the blood. Anaemia and weariness can result from a low red blood cell count. A blood transfusion may be required if you are anaemic. A low white blood cell count increases the risk of infection, necessitating additional precautions such as rigorous hand washing and avoiding infected people. A fever or temperature of 370 C or above indicates infection. If a patient's temperature is 380 C or higher, medical attention should be sought right away.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Myeloma, also called multiple myeloma, is a cancer of the plasma cells. Plasma cells are white blood cells that make antibodies that protect us from infection. In myeloma, the cells grow too much, crowding out normal cells in the bone marrow that make red blood cells, platelets, and other white blood cells. Multiple myeloma, the most common type of plasma cell tumour, develops in the bone marrow and can spread throughout the body.
