About Preticort Ointment
Preticort Ointment belongs to a group of medications called ‘corticosteroids’ used in the treatment of various inflammatory skin conditions. This medicine is used in the treatment of skin diseases like dermatitis (skin inflammation), sub-acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, eczema, dermatoses (skin lesions), and other inflammatory conditions.
Preticort Ointment contains ‘Triamcinolone,’ which belongs to the class of ‘corticosteroids’. It is an anti-inflammatory agent and immunosuppressant that controls inflammation by acting on the immune system. It prevents the release of chemicals that cause inflammation. This effect helps in reducing swelling, pain and discomfort.
Preticort Ointment is for topical (skin) use only. Your doctor will advise the appropriate use of Preticort Ointment that suits your infection. Common side effects of Preticort Ointment include itching, dryness, irritation, redness and a burning sensation at the application site. These side effects are temporary and gradually resolve over time. If these side effects persist, please consult your doctor.
Preticort Ointment should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Please do not use it more often or for a longer time than your doctor prescribed; also, do not stop the medication abruptly. Notify your doctor if you have any other skin infections or have undergone surgery. Also, inform your doctor if you develop any skin infections while using this medicine. Preticort Ointment weakens your immune system, so stay away from people who are sick. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
