Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet contains Saxagliptin and Dapagliflozin. Saxagliptin enhances glucose-mediated insulin secretion, thereby reduces fasting and post-prandial blood sugar concentrations. Dapagliflozin removes excess sugar from the body via urine. Together, Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet helps treat type-2 diabetes mellitus.

Do not stop taking Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet without consulting your doctor, as it may cause an increase in blood glucose levels. Continue taking Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it to you. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you experience any difficulty while taking Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet .

Dehydration could be a side-effect of Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet . Drink plenty of fluids if you experience any symptoms of dehydration such as dry mouth, feeling thirsty, tiredness, sleepiness, passing less urine, and fast heartbeat.

Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet may sometimes lower the blood glucose levels more than normal, leading to hypoglycemia. Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels while taking Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet . Hypoglycemia symptoms include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, shakiness, faintness, confusion, and visual disturbances.

Maintain a healthy diet by regular intake of carbohydrates. Eat your meals regularly, and do not exercise heavily for longer durations with an empty stomach.

About Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet

Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet belongs to the group of anti-diabetic medicines used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus adjunct to diet and exercise. Type-2 diabetes mellitus is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes. Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet is not indicated to treat diabetic ketoacidosis or type-1 diabetes mellitus.
 
Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet is a combination of two drugs, namely: Saxagliptin (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor) and Dapagliflozin (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors). Saxagliptin enhances glucose-mediated insulin secretion, thereby reduces fasting and post-prandial blood sugar concentrations. Dapagliflozin removes excess sugar from the body via urine. Together, Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet helps treat type-2 diabetes mellitus.
 
You are advised to take Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as urinary tract infection, hypoglycaemia, upper respiratory tract infection, and dyslipidaemia. You are advised to consult your doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.
 
Avoid taking Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Directions for Use

Take Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet with or after food. Swallow Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet as a whole with a glass of water; do not break, chew or crush it.

Side Effects of Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet

Drug Warnings

Do not take Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its components. Inform your doctor if you have type-1 diabetes mellitus, pancreas disorder, AIDS, reduced kidney function, diabetic ketoacidosis, heart disease, liver problems, high/low blood pressure, infections, if you are older than 75years, if you are taking insulin, sulphonylurea or pioglitazone. Co-administration of Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet with Gatifloxacin may sometimes affect blood glucose levels. Both low blood glucose and, less frequently, high blood glucose have been reported.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction, Gatifloxacin can be taken with Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet if prescribed by the doctor. Consult the prescriber if you experience symptoms such as nervousness, confusion, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tremor, nausea, hunger, weakness, perspiration, palpitation, rapid heartbeat, increased urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. Maintaining blood glucose levels is advised. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

Consult the doctor if you experience nervousness, confusion, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tremors, nausea, hunger, weakness, perspiration, palpitation, rapid heartbeat, urination, thirst, and hunger. Monitoring blood glucose levels is advised. Do not discontinue any medications without first consulting your doctor.

However, if you experience dizziness, fainting, headache, lightheadedness, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate, contact a doctor. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

Coadministration of Bexarotene and Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet can increase the risk of developing pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).

How to manage the interaction:
Co-administration of Bexarotene and Qtern 5mg/10mg Tablet can lead to an interaction, it can be taken if advised by your doctor. However, if you experience any symptoms like persistent nausea, vomiting, abdominal tenderness, and upper abdominal pain, especially that which is made worse after eating or radiates to the back, consult your doctor immediately. Do not discontinue any medications without first consulting your doctor.
