S-Cold DS Suspension

S-Cold DS Suspension belongs to the class of cough and cold medications primarily used to treat symptoms of the common cold and allergies (allergic rhinitis). The common cold is a respiratory illness affecting the nose and throat. It is mostly caused by viruses known as “rhinoviruses”. The virus enters the body through the nose, mouth, or eyes and spreads easily through droplets in the air when the person who is sick sneezes, coughs, or talks. Allergies are caused due to the 'allergens' that release 'histamine' to release in the blood, thereby causing a stuffy nose, watery eyes, itching nose/throat, etc. 

S-Cold DS Suspension is a combination of five drugs, namely: Paracetamol (mild analgesic and antipyretic), Phenylephrine (decongestant), Chlorpheniramine (antihistamine), Sodium citrate (mucolytic agent), and menthol (cooling agent). Paracetamol is an analgesic (relieves pain) and antipyretic (reduces fever) that works by inhibiting the production of certain chemical messengers in the brain known as prostaglandins that are responsible for pain and fever. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that works by contracting and narrowing the blood vessels. Chlorpheniramine belongs to the class of antihistamines (anti-allergic drugs) that works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance responsible for causing allergic reactions. Sodium citrate is a mucolytic agent (cough/sputum thinner) that works by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose. Menthol is a cooling agent that relieves minor irritation in the throat and provides a cooling sensation.

Take S-Cold DS Suspension with or without food as advised by your doctor. Some people may experience drowsiness, nervousness, mild headache, dizziness, insomnia (difficulty in falling or staying asleep), blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and dry mouth. Most of these side effects of S-Cold DS Suspension do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to S-Cold DS Suspension or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant, it is advised to inform your doctor before taking S-Cold DS Suspension. Do not use S-Cold DS Suspension in breastfeeding mothers without a doctor’s advice as it may be excreted in breast milk and cause harm to the baby. S-Cold DS Suspension is not recommended for children below 2 years of age. Please do not take more than the prescribed dose of S-Cold DS Suspension as it may cause liver damage and severe adverse effects. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), chronic bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), blockage in the stomach or intestines, enlarged prostate gland, pheochromocytoma (tumor in the adrenal glands), kidney, liver, heart or urinary problems, inform your doctor before taking S-Cold DS Suspension.

Together helps relieve symptoms of a common cold like headache, fever and allergies like stuffy nose, watery eyes, itching nose/throat etc.

If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), chronic bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), blockage in stomach or intestines, enlarged prostate gland, pheochromocytoma (tumour in the adrenal glands), kidney, liver, heart or urinary problems, inform your doctor before taking S-Cold DS Suspension.

• Do not give S-Cold DS Suspension to children below 2 years of age.
• Do not take S-Cold DS Suspension for longer than 7 days in a row (for adults) and 5 days (for children above 2 years).
