About Spegra Tablet

Spegra Tablet belongs to the group of antiretroviral agents indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and children above 12years weighing at least 40kgs. HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, making it compromised and susceptible to various infections and diseases.

Medicinal Benefits Mweb

Medicinal Benefits

Spegra Tablet is an anti-retroviral drug used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Spegra Tablet works by interfering with the replication of HIV and preventing its further progression. It contains Dolutegravir, Emtricitabine and Tenofovir alafenamide. Dolutegravir works by blocking HIV integrase, which is responsible for integrating viral DNA into the host cell. Thus, it inhibits the integration of the viral component into the human body cells. Emtricitabine works by inhibiting reverse transcriptase, which is responsible for transcribing RNA to DNA. By blocking this action, emtricitabine prevents the proliferation of the virus. Tenofovir alafenamide blocks the enzyme polymerase, thereby preventing aggregation of viral components and terminating the DNA chain, thus effectively nipping viral replication in the bud.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Practise safe sex to prevent transmitting HIV to your partner. Educate yourself and your partner about pre and post-exposure prophylaxis and ART (anti-retroviral therapy). Use a condom as far as possible.
  • Meditation and yoga have also proven very effective in helping HIV patients maintain a healthy attitude and body.
  • Eat more lean meats, healthy fats, fruits, vegetables and whole-grain foods.
  • Take good care of your oral hygiene. HIV often affects the mouth and causes sores. See a dentist regularly. Brush, floss and scrape your tongue well and keep your mouth clean.
  • Taking a stroll in the garden, or spending 30 minutes of your time doing some light physical activity can be very useful. However, do not over-exert yourself if you feel too tired.
