FAQs

Basecort Cream contains Hydrocortisone, a steroid that works by acting inside skin cells and inhibiting the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching, and swelling. When the skin reacts to any type of allergens, such chemicals are released normally.

You are recommended not to use Basecort Cream on the face unless advised by your doctor as the skin on the face is delicate. However, if advised by the doctor, follow the instructions and do not use it for more than 5 days on the face as the skin on the face thins easily.

You are recommended to use Basecort Cream for a maximum of 1 week or for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. However, if there is a recurrence of your condition within 2 weeks shortly after stopping treatment with Basecort Cream, do not restart using it and please consult a doctor.

Basecort Cream is not recommended to treat psoriasis (scales and itchy, dry patches) as it may worsen the condition or could lead to recurring psoriasis after stopping the treatment. Therefore, if you have psoriasis, please consult a doctor so that appropriate medication is prescribed.

Basecort Cream may be used to treat nappy rash only if advised by the doctor. In such cases, the treatment must not normally exceed more than 7 days.

About Basecort Cream

Basecort Cream belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids used to provide relief from swelling, redness, itching, dryness, inflammation and discomfort of certain skin conditions such as dermatitis (itchy, swelling of the skin), eczema (itchy, cracked, swollen or rough skin) and insect bite reactions. The swelling of the skin occurs when an allergic reaction or skin irritation releases several substances in the skin that widens blood vessels and cause itching, redness, pain, and swelling in the irritated area.

Basecort Cream contains Hydrocortisone, a steroid that works by acting inside skin cells and inhibiting the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching, and swelling. When the skin reacts to any type of allergens, such chemicals are released normally.

Use Basecort Cream as prescribed. You are advised to use Basecort Cream for as long as your doctor has prescribed it based on your medical condition. Basecort Cream is usually safe when used in the correct amount for the prescribed time. Some people may experience burning or stinging sensations at the site of application. These side effects of Basecort Cream do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Hydrocortisone or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, it is advised to consult a doctor before using Basecort Cream. Do not use Basecort Cream in more than prescribed doses, or on a large area of skin for a prolonged time as it may cause adverse effects. Do not wrap or cover the treated area with a bandage unless advised by your doctor. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames as the fabric (bedding, clothing, dressings) that is in contact with Basecort Cream catches fire and burns easily.
