Let your doctor know if you plan to become pregnant or already pregnant and a lactating mother. If you apply Whitfield S Ointment to breasts or nipple for treatment, wash it off while nursing your baby. Do not apply Whitfield S Ointment on mucous membranes, lesions, and large areas of skin.

Directions for Use

Whitfield S Ointment is a combination medicine of Salicylic acid and Benzoic acid. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates, and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin) that breaks down the clumps of keratin, removes dead skin cells, softens the skin. Salicylic acid is also an anti-inflammatory agent and topical antibacterial agent. Benzoic acid is a fungistatic/antiseptic agent inhibits the growth of fungi.

About Whitfield S Ointment

Whitfield S Ointment is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat eczema, psoriasis, skin irritation and inflammation caused by burns, insect bites, fungal infections. Eczema is a condition in which skin patches become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply up to 10 times faster than usual, leading to skin build-up into bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales. These commonly appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. 

Whitfield S Ointment is composed of two medicines: Salicylic acid and Benzoic acid. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates, and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin), which breaks down the clumps of keratin, removes dead skin cells, and softens the skin. Salicylic acid is also an anti-inflammatory agent and topical antibacterial agent. Benzoic acid is a fungistatic/antiseptic agent and works by inhibiting the growth of fungi. It is also used as an antimicrobial preservative.

Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Whitfield S Ointment is for topical (for skin use) only. If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Whitfield S Ointment has common side effects like warmth or a burning sensation, skin irritation, itching and redness at the application site. The burning sensation may usually last for five minutes after application.

Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to Whitfield S Ointment other medications. Do not put a dressing or bandage on the affected area unless the doctor advised doing so. Whitfield S Ointment should not be applied on mucous membranes, lesions, and large areas of skin.
