Calcispray Nasal Spray belongs to groups of medications called hypocalcemic agents, primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Post-menopausal osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes thinning and weakening of the bones during/after a menopausal period.

Calcispray Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus it helps to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Use Calcispray Nasal Spray as prescribed by the doctor. Calcispray Nasal Spray may cause certain side effects such as hypocalcemia, runny nose, nosebleed, sinus pain, application site reactions such as rhinitis (stuffy nose), epistaxis (nose bleeds) and other nasal symptoms, back pain, arthralgia (Joint pain) and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Calcispray Nasal Spray is for intranasal use only, do not inject or take it orally. Avoid drinking alcohol because it affects how the body absorbs calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for good bone formation.

Calcispray Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a calcitonin receptor agonist that prevents the loss of bones that happens after menopause and helps to rebuild bones. Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Calcispray Nasal Spray works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Calcispray Nasal Spray lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Calcispray Nasal Spray strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Calcispray Nasal Spray also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.

• Hypocalcemia has been reported. Make sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D, as recommended by the doctor.
