About Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER

Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics used to treat several bacterial infections of the urinary tract, ears, nose, throat, chest, and lungs. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER does not work against infections caused by the virus.

Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER is a combination of two antibiotics, namely: Cefixime and Dicloxacillin.  Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) that is necessary for their survival. Thereby damages the bacterial cell wall and kills bacteria.

Take Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. You may experience vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, or vaginal itching in some cases. Most of these side effects of Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER can be taken with or without food as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew it. Do not take Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER while going to bed or lying down to prevent stomach irritation or heartburn.

Co-administration of Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER with Cholera vaccine may reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine.

How to manage the interaction:
Talk to your doctor before receiving the cholera vaccine if you are currently being treated with Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER or have been treated within the last 14 days. To ensure adequate vaccine response, you should not receive cholera vaccine until at least 14 days after you complete your antibiotic therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
How does the drug interact with Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER:
Co-administration of methotrexate with Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER can increase the levels and effects of methotrexate. This can increase the risk or severity of serious infections.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between methotrexate and Mahatax D 200mg/500mg Tablet ER, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience any symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers, paleness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, sore throat, body aches.
