About Tobihale Respules

Tobihale Respules belongs to the class of aminoglycoside antibiotics. Tobihale Respules is used to treat chest infections caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis patients aged six years and older. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a type of bacteria that can cause lung or chest infections, especially in people who already have a lung disease (cystic fibrosis) or an issue with their immune system.

Tobihale Respules contains Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic that fights the infection in your lungs by interfering with protein synthesis in Pseudomonas bacterial cell and helps you breathe better.

Use the Tobihale Respules as prescribed by your doctor. Sometimes, you may experience certain common side effects, such as runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, voice alteration (hoarseness), discolouration of the substance you cough up (sputum), worsening of lung function test results, feeling unwell, muscle pain and voice alteration with sore throat and difficulty swallowing (laryngitis). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Do not use Tobihale Respules if you are allergic to any of its components or other aminoglycoside antibiotics. Do not use the Tobihale Respules without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor before prescribing Tobihale Respules if you have hearing problems, kidney problems, unusual difficulty breathing with wheezing or coughing, chest tightness, blood in the sputum, muscle weakness, and Parkinson's disease. Tobihale Respules is not recommended to be used in children under the age of six.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • It would be best to take probiotics after taking the full course of Tobihale Respules to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestine that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.
  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by gut bacteria which helps stimulate their growth. Thus fibre foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after taking a course of antibiotics. Whole grains, like whole-grain bread, and brown rice, should be included in your diet.
  • Avoid taking too many calcium-enriched foods and drinks as it might affect the working of Tobihale Respules .
  • Avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with Tobihale Respules as it can make you dehydrated and affect your sleep. This can make it harder for your body to aid the Tobihale Respules in fighting off infections.
