FAQs

Viranil Cream contains acyclovir, it exerts antiviral activity against herpes simplex viruses (HSV) by interfering with DNA synthesis and limiting viral replication. Thus it treats recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores).

Viranil Cream is contraindicated in patients allergic to acyclovir, valacyclovir or any component of the formulation.

In rare cases, angioedema (the swelling of the deeper layers of the skin, caused by a build-up of fluid) has been identified in Postmarketing Experience.

Systemic medication interactions are unlikely due to Viranil Cream's low systemic absorption. Clinical experience has revealed no interactions caused by the concurrent topical or systemic administration of other medicines with Viranil Cream.

About Viranil Cream

Viranil Cream belongs to the class of 'antivirals' that is generally used to treat recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) in immunocompetent adults and adolescents aged 12 and up. Recurrent herpes simplex labialis, often known as oral herpes, is a disorder caused by the herpes simplex virus that affects the lips. It's a common and contagious illness that spreads quickly.

Viranil Cream contains acyclovir, it exerts antiviral activity against herpes simplex viruses (HSV) by interfering with DNA synthesis and limiting viral replication.

Viranil Cream is solely for the topical treatment of recurrent HSV lesions on the lips and face. It should be used as prescribed by your doctor. Dry lips, desquamation (scale off or peel off), dryness of skin, cracked lips, scorching skin, pruritus, flakiness of skin, and stinging on the skin were the most prevalent adverse effects to Viranil Cream at the site of topical administration. These side effects may not occur in every patient who takes this drug and will fade over time. Please notify your doctor if the side effects last longer or worsen.

Viranil Cream is restricted for use in people who are sensitive to acyclovir, valacyclovir or any component of the formulation. Viranil Cream should not be applied on mucous membranes including in the eye or inside the mouth or nose. The effect of Viranil Cream has not been established in immunocompromised patients. Before using Viranil Cream, consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Viranil Cream is recommended not for use in children below 12 years.

  • Drink through a straw. This can assist in moving foods past the unpleasant sores in your mouth.
  • Every day, drink at least 8-10 eight-ounce glasses of water. Drink fluids in between meals.
  • Citrus fruits and juices, salty or spicy foods, and acidic foods like tomatoes are all things to avoid if you have mouth sores.
